Planning a flight connection
What to check when your journey includes one or more connecting flights.
Guide
Review the connection time and airport carefully. A short connection may be less comfortable when immigration, security, terminal transfers or a large airport are involved.
Check baggage handling. On a protected itinerary the operating arrangements may be different from a trip made with separate tickets. Read the booking provider's conditions rather than assuming bags will always be transferred.
International connections can involve transit requirements. Check the official immigration or government guidance relevant to your passport and the countries on your itinerary before booking.
Frequently asked questions
Is a longer connection always bad?
No. A longer connection can provide more buffer, but it may also increase total journey time.
What if I have separate tickets?
Allow extra time and understand that separate tickets can create different rebooking and baggage responsibilities.
